A standing arched mirror: five places where it makes your room bigger

A large mirror is the cheapest way to make a room lighter. But only if you put it in the right place.

A large mirror does in a room what an extra window would do. It catches light, doubles it and makes a narrow space wider. An arch also makes it softer than a rectangular mirror. But where do you put it? These are the five places that work best for us.

1. Opposite or next to a window

The classic, and for good reason. A mirror that reflects daylight brightens the dark side of the room. Put it at an angle next to the window if you do not want to see yourself all day.

2. In the hall

A narrow corridor suddenly becomes a space with a mirror of almost two metres. And you can check your coat before you head out.

3. Behind a table lamp

Put a lamp on a console table in front of the mirror. In the evening you see the light twice, and that gives a room depth.

4. In the bedroom, next to the wardrobe

Rather than on the wardrobe door. Lean it against the wall, with a throw or a chair next to it. Then it is part of the interior and not just something to look at yourself in.

5. Behind the dining table

A little less obvious. A mirror behind the dining table reflects candlelight and turns a dinner into a different moment.
